I've made a right mess of my tax affairs and would like some simple advice please.
Up until about six years ago everything was above board - I had alternated between part-time jobs and unemployment benefit and finally a Social Employment Scheme. When this scheme ended I started doing freelance graphic design work and earned a regular (modest) income. I didn't however register as self-employed and drifted on like that until now. My gross income over those six years has varied between €15,000 - €24,000 p.a.
Can someone advise the best course of action in order to clean up the mess? I want to be totally tax compliant but I'm very anxious about the consequences of my neglect and couldn't possibly afford to pay any heavy penalties.
