Hi all,

Heading to Provence for a month in October flying into Marseilles.
will be taking two kids (4-9) and are thinking of heading to Haute
Var which is near the Gorge Verdon and the St. Croix lake. So
there will be lots of outdoor activities etc.

Anybody any experience in this region or in Provence at this time
of year? We will be hiring a car but no definite plans as to where
to stay etc.....any input??

We spent 2 weeks in Provence 2 years ago, last 2 weeks in July. We rented a very nice house in a rural area. Apart from the house being reasonable and very nice we found Provence to be expensive (yes Irish prices). French aren't the friendliest (we have good french so can't blame the language barrier) and there are a lot of tourists. So I suppose my advice would be: Bring a lot of money! Otherwise it's beautiful although a bit hot for serious biking/hiking etc.

We stayed in Castellane during the summer a few years ago. There was a lot of white water rafting and other adventure sports for kids of all ages. Also great for walking along the gorge. Try googling Castellane? Gorge de Verdun? [broken link removed]

All I know is that Moustiers Ste. Marie should be avoided at all costs during high seasons as it is absolutely packed to the rafters with tourists. The traffic round there can be dire too in high season.
