Will be heading to Nantes in mid November on business. Is it worth spending a few extra days there for sightseeing, culture etc?

I wasn't greatly taken with Nantes itself. The chateau is worth a visit, and there are a few attractive older buildings that escaped the ravages of WW2. Overall, it's pleasant enough place, but not that memorable.

If you are prepared to hire a car, there are a lot of very good places to see relatively close to Nantes.

Jules Verne's home town, part of Brittany / Normandy, but not - kind of confused and confusing as well as expensive from what I can remember.

I stayed in Dinan, which is approx. 80 mls from Nantes and it was a beautiful medievel town.

We've stayed in La Baule a few times which is about an hour from Nantes - fab beach resort. The whole area is very pretty and there is plenty to see/do.

La Baule in November would be a ghost town. I agree there is a lot of good stuff in the general area.
