8pm deadline for tolls

I had visitors from N.I. this week-end, came through the M50 toll Sunday evening and went back last night. I said I'd take care of the charges for them but I've missed the 8pm deadline for Sunday's trip. Can anyone tell me if I can still pay online at eflow by just putting in 2 trips or does it all change by missing the deadline? I can't get through to a human on the info line and I can't get out today to find a payzone. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks.

I think i read somewhere that only Republic of Ireland registered card have to pay - I stand to be corrected

Know the clock is ticking for you, I had a query too, and like you could not get through via land line. E mailed them at customerservice@eflow.ie and managed to get a response within 12 hours (and that was at changeover time some weeks back)

8pm deadline was waived till Sept 14th

yeah other half made the mistake of forgetting about toll until sept 15th now has to pay 43 euro - although I think it does only apply to ROI drivers - so you're probably okay

And how do the toll guys get the driver info?

I'm quite sure they don't!

As far as I know there is no way that they can enforce the 'request' that drivers of non-Irish cars pay the toll.

I recall a representative being interviewed at the time of the changeover saying that they 'hoped' that visitors to the country would face up to their responsibility to pay it...

...and the chances of that are???!

Neither they should pay the toll - tolls are only supposed to exist where the road on which they are placed represents a faster alternative to an existing road. There is no other Dublin ring road so there should not be (and should never have been) a toll. And before anyone says it, I hope no one's going allege that there is a similarity between bridges at Lucan, Chapelizod and Islandbridge and the M50 bridge!!

What does the bye law say about paying by 8pm? If it does not stipulate a time in the bye law then surely as long as you pay within a reasonable time that should be the end of it.

It appears that alot of people are being harrassed by the toll company. Surely sending out threatening letters to people because they haven't paid by "8pm" is wrong.

I recall a newspaper article shortly after the changeover detailing how eFlow had done a deal with a UK-based debt collection/enforcement agency which specialises in cross-border enforcement on motoring costs.

The M50 tolling arrangements are daft!

I've missed the 8pm deadline a couple of times, and even though I want to pay the charges I can't do it until they issue a notice in the post, which last time was three weeks later ... and even though I missed two tolls on the same day I am still waiting for a notice on the second. Why can't I pay overdue tolls as soon as I want? -- the information must exist to process them!

There is no way I will ever be opening any of their account options. I've heard half a dozen first hand stories of people being charged for journeys they didn't take. The latest one, on calling the call centre, was told "oh that was a mis-read"... which means they are able to pull up the original photo and correctly read the plate where the computer couldn't.

For the privilege of being told this, you have to call their lo-call number (which is up to 30c/minute from a mobile), and if you DID have an account with them, you would simply be debited without you ever being any the wiser. There must be SOME cases of particular cars being regularly misread in the same way time and again ... you know, that bit of dirt that turn a 6 into an 8 or whatever.

I wouldn't trust them as far as I could kick them.

I received a notice of a fine for not paying the toll on a journey in Dec, my car wasnt even on the road then. I submitted a dispute and it was cancelled. Madness.

On two separate occasions I forgot to pay before the 8pm deadline. I paid soon after it... before noon of the following day. Never got any additional fines.

Hope I haven't jinxed myself for the future!

That's interesting gianni ... their website seems to imply you can't do this. I reckon I'll try it myself next time. I'm STILL waiting for the notice on a trip I made, four weeks ago now. Strange thing is, I got and paid the notice for the one I took an hour before.

Also, I'm just after realising that they charged me €6.80 this time round -- I assumed that the rates had gone up, but no, it seems that they have charged me the rate for a bus. Now I can understand how the computer can misread a number plate, but mistaking my old '99 Avensis for a bus??? I know it performs like one, but c'mon!!! :D

I did it again on Saturday morning! Paid it on Monday morning... I hope my 9 lives aren't running out...

I frequently travel various stretches of the M50 and it just keeps slipping my mind when I actually cross the bridge and incur the toll!
