I have been quoted approx 4K for 2 root canal treatments and 2 crowns on 2 back teeth. I am going for a second opinion and considering going to NI. I would like to make contact with someone who has had dental treatment in NI regarding their experience. I also wonder if 4K is very expensive. I am based in Galway. Has anyone had this type of work done in the West of Ireland at a more reasonable cost? I am not covered by PRSI.

I am currently attending a dentist in Newry for a root canal and crown. I was quoted £593 stg. I am very pleased with the work he's doing so far and he is very careful and thorough.

If you look at the other thread below several people had crowns done for around 700 and root canals done for around 350/400. That would bring your price down to 2200 or thereabouts. I had a crown done on a back molar recently in West of Ireland for 700 and would recommend my dentist, although I don't know what she charges for root canals. I didnt qualify for PRSI either but of course you can reclaim non-routine work on the MED 1 form. I don't know if it is true but someone recently told me that if your spouse qualifies for PRSI treatment that you can qualify under his entitlement? Does anyone else know if this is the case?

ASAIK If your husband has PRSI cover and if you are not working and have no cover you can be included under his contributions. I used this scheme before I went back to work some years ago but I had to change my dentist as at the time some dentists would not get involved in the scheme. I feel that all dentists may be using the scheme now. When you are a working wife I do not think you can get cover under the scheme. A friend of mine had not enough contributions of her own but she could not get cover under her husbands ones either, she needed 5 years contributions before she could get cover. (Before she went back to work she had qualified on her husbands contricutions.
