48 year old looking for mortgage

My ex is looking for mortgage of around 50 grand. He is 48. He nets about 30 grand a year and has proof of paying a mortgage on our house for 16 years and on another house before that. He is in current job more than ten years. Never missed a payment. However he will be separated and will have to pay maintenance for three kids aged 12, 15 and 17? I'm hoping he gets one vas he won't move out unless he does. What are the chances?

No other property. No debt. Savings of maybe 15 grand or so.

His income will be the main thing, his maintenance will be treated similar to a loan repayment so if he qualifies under the bank criteria based on income and outgoings that will determine what amount he can borrow for the term he can get at his age.
