40K savings in UK

We have 40k languishing in a current account in uk (moved back to ireland some months ago from london), which we intend leaving ther till the exchange rate improves (say 6-12 months).

Where best should the money be kept? Can i use a savings account in uk if im resident in ireland?

Technically, yes, an EU resident can open a bank account in any EU country. However, most banks in the UK and elsewhere, restrict account opening to domestic residents.

One exception is in Northern Ireland where most banks accept a ROI address.
