Surprised that there are so many people employed there. I had assumed that majority would have been volunteers .

Bulk of these would be people working on the grounds on their individual projects, local people from the area/country in question. They would be employees, nurses, doctors, logistics people etc. There is at least 13 countries in this round of cuts and that is expected to rise. They've said some jobs in their head office may also be affected

it's all a legacy of the USAID cuts

It's strange that organisations that are so critical of the US, and have been for years, are so willing to take their money.
Is that not a reflection of society in general? After all, I can be quite critical of the Irish Govt and yet happily take a grant to insulate my house.

You could also say it's strange that a country which directly or indirectly caused a lot of the issues around the world then gives grant money to those trying to relieve suffering.

RTE News Report

"Concern receives funding from the United States, from USAID, as well as from bodies such as UNICEF and WFP, which are reliant on US funding."

Crazy world for sure as Christy used to sing.

But I presume that you don't receive grants from the Russian government.

You could if that was the case.

What's that got to do with Concern?
You said that "I can be quite critical of the Irish Govt and yet happily take a grant to insulate my house", but that's you as a citizen and tax payer of this country availing of a grant from this country. That's entirely different to receiving a charitable donation from a foreign State.

Concern are an international charity who just happen to have been set up and domiciled in Ireland. why shouldn't they take grant aid from a foreign state?

It's an Irish charity which operates internationally but they are perfectly entitled to take money from a foreign government. That foreign government in turn is perfectly entitled to stop giving them money if Concern effectively become a political lobby group with the sophistication of a 15 year old middle class Guardian-reading socialist and is overtly critical of that foreign government.

US cuts food assistance programmes at home too... programmes arent being cut because they were critical of the US. It is slash and burn - literally, also cut park rangers who helped to monitor forest fire risks.
