300k in ulster bank current account

Family member recently lodged 300k insurance money with ub. They are now concerned about the safety of money with all the panic talk going around, and are trying too decide what best to do with the money, but nothing too risky. Are people over reacting to the current situation? Any suggestions welcome.

What rate are they getting with UB? If in or around 5% then they could stick most or all of it in Northern Rock at 5% with a 100% guarantee.

Not sure of interest rate but will find out. What would be the deal with northern rock, it being a uk bank, difficult to open account, money converted to sterling etc..

bambam, you can apply online through northern rocks website, I think you then print the form, sign it and send off all necessary documentation with the form.
