Just bought jar marked 30 vitamin supplements in my local Holland and Barrett store. Opened it and thought there were few so counted and found 21. I'm taking it back and will hopefully get a replacement.

Two questions:

1) Will they accept my word for it that I didn't just take out the others?

2) If all the jars are like this i.e. short measure who do I take it up with?

Would appreciate advice from those with experience of this or who know the position.

I bought painkillers some years ago from Boots and when I opened the packet at home there were 2 gone out of it. I was shocked because of the tampering issue.

I returned and asked for the Manager. He took my word for it and gave me a free pack for the inconvenience. He seemed quite shocked at this also and said he would investigate but how realistic that is is another matter.

I would inagine you will have no problem. This kind of thing I'd imagine happens often enough. If you steal from a shop you can only be challenged on departure and if you swallowed the evidence it's hard to prove anything, if you get my drift.

It’s not uncommon in pharmacies for people to steal the contents (blister pack) of a box of tablets and put the box back.

OK - so it's not uncommon in your MIL's shop?

Most pharmacies that I've been in lately have packets of medication behind or on the display cases at the counter and not out on the shelves around the shop.
