Looking into putting some money we have saved for our son into this. Am I right in reading that as he is under 7 it can't be done in his name? If this is the case does anyone know how we can make sure it is protected for him?

Have you phoned State Savings?

Banks let you open accounts in the name of a minor, you could go with a non-State Savings product instead.

Haven't tried calling them will give that a shot.

I have a bank account open in his name but with a poor interest rate and I just wasn't sure what would happen if I had his money in my name if anything happened me.

PTSB pay 3.00% up to 20,000 EUR with their My Cash account for 12-18 year olds.

Rabo pay 2.75% up to 20,000 EUR with their Online Instant Access that can be opened in the name of a child.

Won't qualify for the PTSB one as he is under two but will look into the rabo one thanks. Was going to switch the regular saving to Ebs but they have reduced the 4.1 family saver rate.

Thanks a million for all the help.
