2nd hand/new smallish car?

Need to replace my 00 Fiat Punto asap - thanks to a little help from some visiting vandals!

I don't want a smaller car than the Punto (Micra, Yaris etc) and want to avoid Kia and Chevrolet. 2nd hand up to 8k gets mainly Micra, Punto, Rover, Old Fiesta, Citroen C1 and Kia/Chevrolet.

Am trying to decided whether to stretch the budget for a 2nd hand or bite the bullet and go new (Punto, Corsa, Swift...) for up around 15k.

Must haves: 5 door, decent boot capacity, central locking, cd player, electric front windows, front fog lights, ABS, airbags and 5 full seatbelts. Rear wiper also preferred.

Regular use about 150 km per week with a return trip to Cork from Dublin about once a month.

Would you consider a VW Golf? They are a great car that are hard to fault and hold value pretty good. Honda Civic are also worth checking out. Ford Fiesta are also a great little car.

Around 15k would buy you a new Skoda Fabia...
