Hi everyone,

As the title suggests we are looking for suggestions for the best Health Insurance option for ourselves and a newborn.

We live in Cork, and our policy is for renewal on January 1st and the newborn will (hopefully) be arriving Jan/ Feb.

We are currently with Aviva - Health starter. We would like to include day to day benefits , and possibly (if it wasn't too expensive) semi private care in hospitals.

With the large number of policies out there, it's quite difficult to select the most appropriate one. I know the newborn is included at no extra cost for the remainder of the policy, if added once it has started.

Approximately €1,500 - €1,600 price range for the entire policy would be ideal.

Any advice/ help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Tobi

Aviva Health Starter is €1,150.00 for two adults and €1,349 for two adults and 1 child.

equivalent plans from hia.ie

  • Aviva: €575 Health Starter
  • Laya €495.00 Essential Secure
  • Aviva €525.00 Value Focus
  • VHI: €536.25 One Plan Starter
  • GloHealth: €560.00 Basic Plan

Thanks ajapale for the reply.

But we are not really looking to renew the health starter (or equivalent) as it doesn't include any day to day benefits and we will probably need it with the new arrival (touch wood). We are looking for a plan that includes day to day benefits , and possibly (if it wasn't too expensive) semi private care in hospitals.

It's quite difficult to select the most appropriate policy. We have given ourselves a budget of approximately €1,500 - €1,600 price range for the entire policy.

Any advice/ help would be appreciated.

Kindest Regards

Tobi

Hi Toby,

I never realised how confusing this can be!

I see you live in Cork, would you like semi private cover for the Bons private hospital?

When you say day to day expences do you mean consultant only or GP visits etc? How likely are you to actually claim day to day expences such as Gp visits etc?

Do you want an excess on the policy?

Hi AJ,

We would like semi private or private cover in a public hospital but if there is not much difference or if it's within our budget of €1,500 or €1,600 we would like to see the options for semi prtivate cover in private hospitals.

As of now we don't attend the GP that much but with a new baby (touch wood), we may have to attend a consultant or GP on a number of occasions (hopefully we won't) so we would probably want to claim these expenses.

Whatever the standard excess is would be fine.

Thanks again for your help AJ.

Regards

Tobi
