Hi there,

I've been shopping around again and reading posts on AAM.

I think I have information overload.

Our renewal with Laya is up 1/8/13. Me & Mr Bell are on Essential First and 2 kids (age 6 & 8) are on Essential Connect - Total annual Premium after tax relief is €1,701 pa.

Our premium has gone up, as it had every year! Its over €141 per month and I would like to trim or rejig it again and I have trimmed our cover down every year as we just couldnt afford it.

I dont really care about day to day expenses and I wont need Maternity cover again.

My question is by trimming my cover each year, is it still worth it to have Health Insurance for my family?

I am really on the fence here, I'm reluctant to leave but is the €141 a month a luxury item and not very useful for us?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Mrs Bell,

The plan you have at the moment, covers public hospitals if required. If you don't have a medical card and if you gave up paying health insurance, it would cost you €80 per night as a public patient in a public hospital. This charge applies to children too - subject to a maximum amount of €800 per annum.

Laya has another cheaper basic plan called 'Essential Secure' €495per adult.
There is a good offer for children from 1/8/2013, including good outpatient cover, 'Family Care' plan; child price €212pa

2 adults x 495= 990
2 kids x 212 = 424
Total price =1414 + 3%(if paying by instalments)
Total price 1456
