2010 Avensis D4D - Smoke

I purchased above diesel car last year and was flying it. As the winter approached I noticed that in the morning on the first start of the day the car leaves out a BIG amount of smoke which also smells. I can start it numerous times throughout the day and this won't happen (only on first start).

Also it was quite hard to start on the very cold mornings to include yesterday morning which wasn't frosty etc, it's only the luck of God it goes, I'm afraid it won't start some morning.

Can anyone help, it's concerning me greatly.

If youv a warranty pop into your garage where purchased?

+1 or perhaps battery.

"Smoke" is usually not enough information upon which to base a remote diagnosis. Her's a few smoke-no-daggers rules-of-thumb for diesels:

• black smoke or soot: fuel / air / ignition problem
• bluey-grey smoke: oil / lubrication problem
• white "smoke" (water vapour): coolant in the ignition system

This will not cause this issue. Go to your local Toyota dealer and get it checked properly.
