A dealer I spoke to mentioned that he thinks after the changes in motor tax and VRT in July, that Rav 4's will go down in price and be harder to sell as few people will want to buy a car that will cost almost 1,000 to tax each year - anyone care to share their opinions on this?
(He was trying to sell me a corolla, so trying to decide if his opinion has some merit or if he just wanted to sell the corolla!).
Thanks.
Yes this seems to be the case - you cannot "build your own" RHD 3-door Rav4 from the Toyota web-sites.I dont think it was a case of the Irish dealers stopped selling the 3 door models, I'm nearly sure Toyota don't make a 3 door model of the current version of Rav 4
Surely in the short term (2 - 3 years) the important thing is that you have an inexpensive car you enjoy and feel comfortable driving? So there is a good chance that if I buy say a 2002 petrol Rav4, that once the tax goes to 1,000 or more a year, I will have trouble in selling it? The last thing I want is to end up with a car that I can't sell!

If I buy a petrol rav4 and register it here in say, April, will the changes to the system in July have any effect on my motor tax when I go to renew in April 2009?
