Hi All
just wondering would anyone be able to help me on a few car issues ?
My car keeps cutting out when i stop at lights, is this because my battery needs to be replaced and i do have to top up the oil once a month ,is my head gasket going ?theres no sign of burning oil but it has not been servced in over a year (due to cash flow probs ).Any tips would gratefull
I had a similar issue with my car.I replaced plug leads /plugs/got new fuel filter/air filter/no signs of gasket going (Mayonnaise type goo on oil filler cap etc).
After spending a couple of hundred euro I still had the problem.
I googled it and found a post saying to check the Accordion type hose from the air box.
On first inspection it looked OK --Then I took it off and when I held it up to the light it was cracked underneath letting air in.
This was sending a false reading to the sensor and effecting everything from idling speed to the car cutting out --especially at low speeds like turning at a junction when the power steering was looking for more revs.
Try this and if it isn't the problem post again and I will ask my friend who is a very experienced mechanic and get a few suggestions for you as he works on a lot of highly tuned cars..
Hopefully we can get this sorted
Lads its never a good idea to start changing parts willy nilly in the hope it will cure a problem. Better to take it to a mechanic and get a proper diagnosis. Probably end up cheaper in the long run too.
Nobody is suggesting replacing parts 'willy nilly

first port of call would be getting a diagnostic scan done. You don't have to go to a main dealer for this, there are a fair few enthusiasts who have vag-com (vcds) which does the same job.
