2 names on passport?

Im told it's possible to have 2 names on an Irish passport now ... i.e. married name, and then a.k.a. maiden name.

Is this correct, and is there anything different involved in the passport application process?
 
My advise in the interest of confusion, stick to one name only.....especially if travelling through France.
 
I have both names on my passport. My passport was issued in married name but maiden name is noted on another page. It's an option on the application form.
 
I have the same as Danmo.

Sorry to piggyback on your thread - but does anyone know if this means you can book tickets in either name to travel on same passport?
