Hi all,

Hope you can help. My girlfriend is driving a 1997 Mitsubishi Lancer and on a trip from Limerick -> Cork which is about 55 miles her car could use €25 - €30 petrol.

She had the car at a mechanic a few weeks ago to get sorted for the NCT which it passed but seems to be drinking petrol ever since.

On top of that the car is idling funny aswell and sounds like it's gonna cut out with the revs bouncing up and down.

I know the car is old but she loves it and can't really afford anything else at moment so any ideas what might be causing all these problems?

Cheers in advance.

Hi Anto, this sounds a lot like a problem my mate had last year with his escort, it turned out to be the mass air flow sencor was gone (literally, it had come off during the snow). It's not a part needed to pass the NCT so it may not have been noticed.

Just to note I'm not a mechanic and I could be wrong but it's the same problems he had. Your best bet is just to get it checked out.

Good luck

Thanks for the info MrEBear... She'll have to take the car back to the mechanic but just want some suggestions as to what the problem might be as be was meant to check everything not only the NCT requirements.

Thanks again
