08 octavia aircon gone

I have an awful feeling my aircon compressor is gone.

There is gas in the system.

On a quick google this seems to be a very common problem with all VAG cars with the compressor.

Apparently the shaft breaks and throws metal crud into the whole system.

Brother had the same problem diagnosed on his passat 08. looking at 800 on parts alone.

Very very annoyed.

There is no '?' in your post but I assume you are looking for tips!

Try to get a quote from an independent aircon specialist, they exist, and are usually the ones who travel around to dealerships with their van fixing whatever you would leave into the dealer anyway (and pay extra).

seems to offer cheap air-con parts. I have no personal experience with them.
Maplin also offer some machanic/car services.

Sorry question was experience and cost of this fix on passat octavia a4 a6 etc. vag cars when this happens.


Thanks for the company purple looks like compressor alone is guts of 400.

google suggests the car needs several parts.

Seems to be a 1000 plus job, may not be worth fixing.

Plan to get a proper diagnosis this weekend, the black hole of money that is motoring :-(
