for 2 weeks last summer, I was driving a megane with the same 1.5 dci engine.
I remember getting 4 litres/100km which is really efficient, and it was adequately powered.
There are very few more economical diesel engines than this.

I'm considering the Megane 1.5dci for my wife at the moment, she likes the look of the car and will be cheaper to run than her current 1.6 Petrol Honda across all boards Tax, Insurance, Fuel Consumption.
However i have huge fears over reliability with the Renault.
Your concerns appear justified. From reading the online fourms, newspapers and magazines, the "marriage" with Nissan appears to have brought Nissan quality and reliability down rather than dragging Renault's up.
Looking at new Grand Megane myself. I have similar fears about Renault myself, they seem to devalue quickly and would you be able to sell it second hand down the road? The current price deal appears good compared to main competitors.
