hi, i am in the process of changing my car, i currently have a 01 focus 1.6 ghia and have to say i liked it alot but mileage is bit high now. I recently saw a 06 ghia for 20k in garage and thought it was very nice, 20kms, and they will give me 7500 for mine, next closest to that was 5000 from a few places, any one have an opinion on 06 focus and the deal they are offering me?

Can't say on the specific cars you mention, but the most important thing to remember is that what someone will give as a trade-in isn't really that relevant: the only important thing is the "price to change", that is, the amount of hard cash you have to hand over with your car to get the new one. Some places will offer a very high trade-in value without discounting the price of the new car. This can frequenctly be a worse deal than a lower trade-in against a discounted price on the new car.

The best way to see if the deal's good or not is to figure out how much you'd get selling privately and buying for cash. This will establish a nominal price-to-change figure. You're unlikely to achieve this with a trade-in (as you're paying for the convenience of not having to sell), but it's a starting point. After that it's just a matter of shopping aorund.

Key thing is though is to focus on the price difference, rather than anything else.

I have a 06 focus zetec (upgraded from a 03 LX, which gave me no bother at all).

Have to say its a great car to drive, very comfortable and handles well.

The Ghia is the next model up from the Zetec, so I'd say it has even more features etc...

Go for it, i'd highly recommend a focus

take a look at the 1.6 Zetec Connection.

I got one new in Jan for 22.8k (cash deal: was 25k list price). It is a fantastic car to drive, as we know, and the list of extra's is fantastic. Literally 'everything'. Its worth looking into.

p.s with the new model Focus, go with the 1.6 at least. the 1.4 is just too sluggish.

Getting a discount when trading in doesn't happen.

It is one or the other, higher trade in value or discount on a straight deal.

I got the same line from the salesman when buying a car recently. Ignore it and continue to negotiate.
In effect it's like he's saying your car is only worth X as a trade-in and he's not willing to negotiate on
the rest of the price as well as the trade in value. That's not reasonable. How dealers like to structure
deals is their own problem and something to win a concession on.

I have one of these too. A 3 door. The spec. is impressive. Upgraded alloys, integrated bluetooth etc.

I paid a bit less than €22800 also (Employees scheme).

I got an 07 focus connection last week (diesel) and I'm now in love with it and ahve forsaken all others.

In what order are the various spec levels on a 05 focus? i.e. LX, Ghia, Zetec etc.

Freedom, LX, Zetec, Ghia, Titanium, ST.

Connection pack is available on LX and Zetec only.

The Ghia, from what I remember, was just adding uglyish 16" alloy's (too like the LX ones), sunglasses holder, and a cool box under the center arm-rest.
they removed the black lense lights and 3 spoke sportier steering wheel from the Ghia spec too.

I may be biased, but it drove me to the Zetec Connection in a second.

(Then my wife stole it. Now i drive her 7 year old megane. Wheres the justice)
