05 Astra + €5,000 - what car should I aim for?

Thinking of upgrading my car, I currently have an 05 Astra and about €5,000 to add what car should I aim for - an 08 or 09 would do, just want to come up a few years.

Also, what year does the new road tax take effect from?
 
Haven't driven the new Leon but the old one was great to drive. I've heard the new one is better. Better to drive than the Astra anyway that's for sure. Looks great too IMO. Resale in fairness wouldn't be great but not terrible either.

You might be able to stretch to a 1.4tsi (125 bhp or thereabouts)- if you're into that sort of thing. :)
 
I think it needs to have been first registered after July 2008 to avail of the new tax rates.

Consider a Mazda 3 maybe as well?

Reliable as anything, good resale - better than a Focus for example.

I like the look of it though many aren't convinced.

I'd take one though - will probably be my next car.
 
Mazda 3 looks a nice car :)

Villa....what do u mean by oil burner for the Octavia, do u mean to stay away from it?
 
Pee - that's exactly what my husband did... 05 Astra Sport & about €5k got him an 07 Mazda 3 with 12k mileage. Great car (used to have one myself until I got a Kia Ceed)
