Noise when press Clutch - '03 206 <60k miles

Hi, for the past week there has been a rattle (increased noise) when I press down the clutch to change gears. It seems to be worse when starting a journey or in 1st/2nd gear.

Do I need a new clutch? Should I have gotten more mileage out of it?

Edit: It is the clutch , quotes from 300 to 700! is this the norm? Am I kidding myself that the 300 is a great deal or would I be foolish to go it! Would really appreciate feedback from others on how much you have spent on replacement clutch as I am out of my depth! Tnx.

All I can say is that I have a 03 - 206 ( 1.4 Look ) with 67,000 miles and hear a noise in the mornings when leaving my driveway ........ not worrying me yet ..........................

Do you drive with your foot resting on the clutch pedal?This can shorten the life of the clutch.

in very cold weather with deisel engines it is good practice to leave the engine idle for a few minutes to thin out the oil ( engine and gearbox ).
the noise you are hearing could be the gears grinding against each other due to lack of lubrication.

I believe this is good practice anyway - diesel or petrol, cold weather or not.

It transpires it was the 'release bearings' on the clutch that was gone and the noise was the broken bits?? (Not sure if that makes sense......)

Got it fixed and car is running like a new car...so happy.

Glad I got it sorted as apparently, according to Mechanic, if I had let it go much further it would have seized up and car would needed to be towed......not a happy thought over xmas.

Allthedoyles, I would suggest that you get yours checked as thats how mine started a noise in morn only and gradually lasting longer until last week when it got really bad.

With modern lubrications and modern engines this is a very bad idea.
