Need to get a 7 seater so plan on selling my car. Overall the car has caused me no problems. Serviced regularly. The only problem with the car is cosmetic. Both sides have alot of scratches and one small dent on one side. Is it worth my while repairing the body work before trying to sell?
It is an 01 car maybe worth 2000 - 2500 in good condition. Was going to sell it privately. If i sold it "as is" am i being too hopefull in asking 1000 for it? Any advice appreciated.

I wouldn't bother. Most realistic buyers expect some scratches after 7 years, unless it's a very sought after or high spec. car.

Some might use it as a negotiating ploy alright but don't listen to them. It would probably cost you more to fix it up than the extra couple of 100 euro you might get for nice bodywork.

somebody buying a car for less than the cost of a decent watch wont mind a few scratches.
i think you should sell it as.

Thanks for advice. Dont need hassle of repairing body work so will sell it hopefully in the new year.

It is a hyundai accent.

In that case definitely don't repair. Not many cars depreciate as much as this one - you'll probably get very cheeky low offers as it is and not much higher ones even if it was perfect.

I was wondering the same thing with my 04 Fiesta.

If I leave the scrape on the rear wheel arch, how should I go about advertising the car? Should I mention the scrape in the advert or even show it in a photo?

I would mention it if I were you. State something about the length of the scrape.

Could it be repaired using one of those spray cans of the same paint? Or is there an underlying dent?
