Key won't go into ignition - Avensis 04

Key has been slow going into ignition but since it came back from Toyotal garage after service it has got progressively worse! Now, this morning it would not go into ignition at all!!

Key works perfectly for remote locking and opening and on lock on driver's door. Spare key and second key having same problems.

Someone suggested spraying oil into ignition as it could be dirt transferred there from the key over a period of time - this advice came from Toyota garage - they are closed today and service area not available until tomorrow.

Any suggestions?
 
Yes. A small dab of 3 in 1 may help, and will not harm electrics.
 
My wife had the exact same problem with our 04 Avensis recently. She could not get the key into the ignition and was left seriously stranded 7 miles from town with our two toddlers in the car. A local mechanic arrived on scene and used some 3in1 on the key and sorted the problem immediately. The only problem is that she has lost confidence in the car - and is worried the key will play up again. I wonder is this a problem with the 04 Avensis?

Yea, it is not nice to be stranded especially with kids!!! I thought of that recently but I have insurance cover which includes this. Also, Toyota have 24 hour cover for breakdown, which I presume would include this.However, as the car is in my driveway, I would imagine that insurance company will not cover my present dilema!:(

Good thinking in that it could be an 04 Avensis problem.I will try all the first aid recommendations and will contact my local Toyota garage. The car was only recently serviced, in fact it was an expensive service €340 as they gave it a complete overhaul including brake pads etc.etc.
