Ireland recorded its warmest temperatures in 1887. Pity JG wasn't around at the time, he'd have spotted this global warming thing long before it became trendy. He probably would have spared us from the motor car and other creations of the devil.
 
It might have been difficult for him to spot a trend. Another random fact; the same decade also saw the lowest temperature on record of -19.1°C in Co. Sligo in 1881.

If John Gormley was around in the post war period 1945-1955 then he might have expedited Irleand's entry to the UN! Our entry was held up for a decade primarily by China who regarded the Republic as a British Province and not a "real" country. Kinda the same as Tibet! It seems the reason the Chinese Ambassador stormed out of the Green Party Conference in Dundalk was JG's description of Tibet as a "country"! Incidentally Scotland (and Wales) is a "country" but this does not cause any problem for even the most die hard unionists.

From coldest to warmest in only 6 years!!! He'd have issued us all with iodine tablets.:rolleyes:
