Hi,
Does anyone know if there is a company in Ireland who can convert your car to run on Electricity?

I have done a seach on the web, there are some places in the UK but I can't find any in Ireland.

Hi,
I have done a seach on the web, there are some places in the UK but I can't find any in Ireland.

Tell us more about these places in the UK! I would have thought that the weight of the batteries and electric motor, plus the extensive modification needed to the suspension, underbonnet area and running gear (i.e. gearbox, uprated brakes etc, would mean that such a job is likely to be massively expensive?

I've seen magazines featuring road tests of manufacturer's own electric versions of cars, but many of these are only prototypes. I think that some years ago, Peugeot did sell electric versions of the 205 in France but the car had a limited range and was quite slow.

Would you not be better-off with a hybrid like a Toyota Prius? What about checking out some of the smaller continental manufacturers for electric versions of they microcars?

Hi,
I picked up the idea of Electric Car conversion, when I came across a guy, (Gavin Shoebridge) in New Zealand (on YouTube), who converted his petrol car to Electric. He had set out all the stages from beginning to end. I myself am not technically minded and thought this is a good idea and just wondered if anyone in Ireland had ever converted their car to electric.

As for speed, I think his car can do between 60 - 65 KPH. As for distance travelled, I think one charge will give a distance of 100 Kilometers.

Obviously the Prius is a good make of car but there is still a reliance on fossil fuel and I want to get away from that.
