If the garda traffic corp are pulled in on the side of the road and if you are doing above the speed limit, do they spot you or is a ticket automatically issued? How long does it take usually to get the speeding notification after you have been caught??

it depends on whether the equipment they have can take a snap shot of your car reg and record it against the speed you are doing

if it was just a hand held speed detector and they didn't stop you, you should be ok

normally takes about 3-4 weeks from memory to get the notification in the post

Does anyone know if the traffic corps jeeps are equipped with the high tech equipment to catch you or do they only have the handheld devices too??

Well, i am not sure about the Jeep but they do have big Green Ford van with a speed camera inside, i have seen this van many times during last Dec on N4 near Lucan and if u look closely, u can actually see a speed camera inside,

If you are pulled over via the hand-held device, then it should take no more than 1.5 weeks to be issued after being caught.

I do not think a ticket is automatically issued.

Do any of the newer hand held devices have the capacity to record your licence plate number - or do they need to stop you to prosecute?

My brother got his points in the post - he wasn't pulled over.

If anyone asks me if I have points I say "not as far as I know" (well except car insurance people of course):D

Was he caught speeding by a fixed position/van camera or hand held - is that outlined in the report received in the post?

Hi there,

Query;

I was notified on 15.04.08 that I was driving over the speed limit in a built up area near my home. The offence was committed on 21.02.08.
Are guards obliged to issue summons within a specific period of time?

Thanks

Is there an obligation on the Gardai when issuing fixed charge offence note for speeding to include the name of the guard, rank number etc. It seems that it is necessary to show the speed; the limit; the location; the reg number; time and date.

The summons MUST be issued within 6 months of the alleged offence but does not have to be served within 6 months of the said offence.
