Could anyone give a quick summary of the best places to live, either in Maynooth itself, or within a short commute? I've seen some nice spots at random but don't really have any feel for where to focus.

Maynooth is an ok place to live.
first of all it is very central with liffey valley 15 mins away and blanchardstown shopping centre 25 mins away.
you also have the train station into town which is a very good service.
you also have about 6 or 7 large pubs/bars, a few nice restaurants etc.
but its not the cleanest.
rent is very much available but is quite expensive because of the location.
 
I've been living in Maynooth for 4 months now and haven't noticed a litter problem.
