For family reasons I may have to purchase a two/three bedroom bungalow in Tubbercurry. I may want to sell this property inside five years. Does anybody know what the market is like in Tubbercurry? Is there a big demand for houses etc?

I know this area quite well and a family residence has risen from 30000£ to 250000 over 10 years but could not say whether demand is high or not. A lot of people are being priced out of Sligo and need to look further afield and would imagine that this trend would continue. Planning is also tighter so where people would have traditionally built on family land this is becoming more difficult. Whereabouts is the house? Ballina Road or Sligo Road?

Well Gauloise, According to my mother the Ballina Rd. has 'gone to hell' and she feels that either the Sligo Rd, Ballymote Rd or Charlestown Rd would be a better bet. The important thing is that it is within a five minute (ish) safe walk to the the shops and is a bungalow. Thanks for your help.

Well according to my mother any road that leads out of Tubbercurry is a good road but she's from Tipperary! Try contacting the local estate agent..McCarrick is the name of the agency and if I hear of anything I'll let you know!

Tubbercurry is a good town, but like any other property in the country at the moment, is open to a price correction.

As someone said, Sligo prices are forcing people to look within commuting distance, Tubber is basically half way between Sligo and Galway (distance wise, Claregalway chokes it all up though).

If I was buying a home there I would not hesitate .... if I *had to sell* within 5 years, I don't think so ...but I would say that about any property in the country at the moment, ans is of course a personal opinion, not shared by all.

is it not tax designated under the rural renewal scheme and facing a big smash once the tax relief runs out and the investors dump ??

It's 21 miles to Sligo ..60 odd to Galway..don't see too many people commuting to Galway from Tubber! Tax incentive devolepments have been limited and not terribly successful.. believe that they were trying to entice buyers with offers of a new car etc.. you will do better purchasing a bungalow/cottage on its own plot as this at least will have constant appeal to the local market.

OK

Then there won't be an overhang as they pile out. What about Ballymote up the road , is it full of Tax designated property ??

Yes a lot of the new developments have been under section 23 but I don't know a lot about these. Ballymote is on the train line to Sligo so it will always be a good commuter town..a 4 bed semi can be bought for 185.000.

Ophelia, you must be careful where you buy in Tubber as the council are flatening a rough council estate and rehousing the occupants in various
new estates throughout the town while the original estate is being rebuilt.

That's right dandy, I am aware of that. There are lots of new houses being built with some unsavoury types getting housed therein. This is one of the reasons I am looking at a small existing bungalow-type dwelling in the town (as opposed to the outskirts). I wouldn't like to paint a rough picture of Tubbercurry or anything, it's a fine town with plenty going on, but it just takes one or two odd balls to really mess up the day-to-day lives of those around them. Thankfully, there are some lovely people there too.

Hi,

I would stick if possible to the Charlestown Rd or Ballymote Rd area of the town - There is currently a couple of bungalows for sale on Ballymote Rd - here is a web-address for one of them [broken link removed]
This house is about 1 mile from the town centre

There is another bungalow for sale which is closer to the town but I don't know what auctioneer is selling this house.

Tubbercurry is a nice town with some good facilities

Like other posters have said, it is becoming a sattelite town for people who work in Sligo but can't afford to live there - Because of this, prices will probably hold - They are still rising at the minute

Anyone know what the Church Street area of Tubbercurry is like?

Is this near the estate that is being flattened? Thanks

Thank you!

Would you know Connolly Park in Tubbercurry? I think that's on an estate, but I'm not sure if that's the estate which is to be demolished. Would Church Street be a better/quieter area than Connolly Park? Or would there be much difference? Thanks
