Best way to invest pre IPO

I’ve made a substantial Paper profit from Tesla shares, I’m invested since 2014 and now have decided to top slice.
I’ve been doing research on another of Musk’s ventures Space X. Their satellite broadband could be the future of broadband. Is there any way you can invest Pre IPO? They have sold equity in blocks to large institutional investors. How does the small guy get a slice of this? About 200k to invest

I’m assuming that your net worth (excluding your family home) is something north of €10m?

Because that’s probably the only scenario in which someone should consider putting €200k into something like Space X.

Hi Gordon

While I agree with your point, I think you are being a bit too conservative.

If the OP has cleared his mortgage and has about €2m to invest , then punting 10% would be fine. He can well handle the loss. But that is assuming that the remaining €1.8m is invested in a well diversified portfolio of equities.

Actually it’s even simpler then this.
The best way to invest in an IPO is to avoid it.

The evidence is compelling see attached

The OP is look to invest pre-IPO and presumably sell to the suckers at the IPO.

You don’t private placings are done because they don’t have to meet the requirements of a listing for the public. I used to know a few people that did this stuff but I lost contact since I retired.

Best approach would be try and find out who the stocks were placed with and see if any are venture capital firms. If so they might be willing to take you on as a private client. However you will probably need to add another zero to your investment figure.

Goldman handled the Tesla IPO so perhaps meaningful clients of GS get access to this kind of thing. And “meaningful” isn’t €200k or €2m...

I actually own some Space X now that I think of it, apologies.

I hold it via Scottish Mortgage Trust, the Baillie Gifford fund.
