Can someone tell me how this person ever got on the radio.

Do RTE have any standards for ability, talent, creativity, flair or presentation style?

On a plus note, the Ray Darcy seems a good presenter in comparison.

Brenda Donahoe is her name, she was on Celbrity Bainestor a few years ago as well

I liked Ray when he was on Today FM in the morning but he seems to have got too serious since he went to RTE

I don't know who's the more woeful.

One with that deadpan voice:
"Good afternoon and here's the news with Eileen Dunne" (on RTE Radio Wunne)
Greeting guests with "How'ya doooin"

The other who sounds like they've been dragged from the nearest bar stool and talks about someone called "Mar-in" (unpronounced t)

I'm sure Ray is a lovely man and all that but I find his show inane, tabloid and quite vulgar considering the time of day it is on.
I don't think conversations about sex, including the oral variety, are appropriate during a time when kids could be listening.

You could say the same about ,lunch time live, on Newstalk some days too.

I also find Dr. Ciara Kelly, who has, according to herself, been on the right side of every issue since she could stand up (like a female version of Mickie D), hard to listen to. Too much about her and not enough about the guests or the news. That seems to be an increasingly common trait on the radio, particularly on Newstalk.

I’ve never noticed a prurient theme to the show and surprised to read oral sex was discussed. His previous incarnation on Today FM(?) was decidedly distasteful when I happened to be listening.
As a presenter though, how do people like him get selected and where do the absurd salaries come from. They should be on civil service pay scales as RTE is increasingly just a government mouthpiece.

I agree with you Purple 100 %. . Ciara is very hard to listen to. She loves herself too much. And I was happy to see the end of Ray"s TV show too. It is hard enough to listen to him without having to look at him too.

I used to think that aswell but now I have completely changed my opinion. Her no nonsense approach to the corona virus and cutting through all the hysteria and scare mongering with her authority as a doctor and that she contracted it herself aswell.

To be honest I do think her programme is very good but her guests do not get enough time because of her interrupting all the time and then talking over them . Other presenters on this show are much easier to listen to , in my opinion.

I think Ciara Kelly is good, displays intelligence anyway, more than a lot of them.

The worst bit with Ray was when he decided to take on an occasional curmudgeon role, and he used to have Gaybo on to bemoan manners, pronunciation or some such. His only hope is to keep it bright and breezy in the Ian Dempsey mode.

As for Brenda, sure she's grand, out to talk to the people. The 'man is the street' will chat away to her - you don't need to be mastermind for that. Can you imagine Pat Kenny (who I now listen to) being given that role??, Pat was never good at hiding his contempt for "unsavouries" as he'd no doubt call them (being anyone on less than €150k).

Was Ray the chief recipient? RTE Radio "wunnne", "How'ya doin" et al

Patently obvious she's no mastermind but her presentation style, coarse voice, pronunciation, inane line of questioning....how did she ever get the gig
