Storing books in garage

Hi, have a LOT of fabulous teaching resources which I want to store in an insulated outdoor garage. Would the sealed plastic containers be good enough to avoid damage? Any other suggestions?

If the room is in any way damp you risk mould etc. Especially given the Irish climate. Why are you keeping them?

Wrapping some rice, or sugar cubes in tissue creating a small 'parcel' and distributing them around the books inside the container should keep them dry. About two per book. Check and change them every six months or so..

Sealed plastic containers have the potential for serious mould if there's any moisture at all in them.

Rice is less likely than sugar to leave any sticky residue in case of serious moisture managing to get in.

So when will you actually be using them? Also will they not quickly go out of date.

Run a dehumidifier if you have concerns about damp.

I can't stress this enough for the Irish climate. A dehumidifier costs about €200 and maybe 3c-4c an hour to run. It pays for itself if it prevents damp problems on walls and stops books from wilting.

We bought a previously rented house that had had damp issues in en suite. I ran a dehumidifer for a few hours a week and never had any problems.
