Gardai Speed van on the Lucan Bypass

I noted that over the long weekend the Gardai speed van was there at least twice that I saw in the under rated 80K zone.

Before the holier than thou crowd jump in we were at the limit so not speeding not caught.

The Gardai commissioner has been on several media outlets claiming that all these vans are for safety.

This shooting fish in a barrel rubbish makes a mockery of this statement.

Unfair, I wonder how many people had there long weekend ruined by this cynical exercise.

Lol !
I don't think a speed van would ruin my weekend even if I was speeding a little bit.
I'd have forgotten about the van in about 30 seconds.

The van caught me.

After travelling from Galway on continous motorway at a constant 120Kmh for 90 mins, suddenly having to slow down to 80Kmh felt incredibly slow. Which is why I was still doing 90 when I spotted the van. Just as I was thinking, hey that looks like it might be a speed van, the flash went off.

Oh well, I broke the rules, I got caught, I'll pay the fine and take the points.

Fully agree with you. I think there a many more roads which could use such safety vans than a three laned modern motorway.

Sorry to be slightly off topic but do the non Garda vans have cameras front facing aswell as rear facing?

I passed one the other day and was slowing down from about 70mph after accelerating to overtake another car and of course then I spotted it up ahead but the van was on my right hand side parked on the layby on the other side of the road but it was facing me and I couldn't see any front facing camera whereas there's a lot of equipment visible in the back.
