This is standard one-eyed ideologically based analysis from Fintan O’School.
He ignored that Labour are the ultimate clientist party, the ultimate stroke politicians. They were the spotty kid on the side-lines who watched as Fianna Fail stole their clothes and bought off the traditional Labour Party rump; the unionised protected sector.
The notion that protecting the haves from the have-not’s and promoting a bankrupt ideology that traps people in poverty is somehow morally superior is nothing more than I’d expect from him.
 
you are missing the point = WWFFD = what would Fianna Fail Do is now the FG mantra, unfortunately it does not bode well for democracy. I would not dwell too much on labour. What fintan is saying FG promised so much but it was all lies. ie FG have no policies, they were fortunate to get elected and have just continued on with the same old game, ie make as much as we can and hope the suckers vote for us again next time.

Politics in Ireland is a reflection of the electorate. As long as we have multi-seat constituencies and the single transferable vote nothing will change as our system beings everything down to the local level and the lowest common denominator at that local level. Labour are no different from Fianna Fail of Fine Gael. The reason that FG look like FF is that they are in power and FF were in power. Wide-boy politics is a necessary function of being in power in Ireland because that's what the electorate want.
