Was this the exact moment the boom peaked?

:)
Maybe.

But I think the real reason is that AAM was discussed on a TV program just before that time. Eddie Hobbs presented it.

Well there was that massive thread over in Great Financial Debates back then

That thread was a huge part of this site
When it got locked so many users left they set up a new site for themselves

The SSIA money was also coming on stream at that time. There was a forum specifically set up for it. The SSIA's generated huge interest.

ah the good ol days of SSIA money.....it felt like free money at the time. Little did we realise what was tearing down the tracks!

Hi Newbie

It fells like a lifetime away (but only a few years) that we were all discussing where/how we should invest our spare cash.

Seems like a lovely dream now.

And if memory serves me corectly, most SSIA's matured shortly before our old buddies, Fianna Fáil, were re elected to government again. A total coincidence, I know, but a point worth making, nonetheless. ;)

Did anybody else tell you that your are an absolute sage? If not. I am :)

PS: have never voted for FF

Ah those days

Radio jammed with ads begging for people to invest with them.
Wine, art, apartments in Budapest and lots more

Kevin Sharkey became famous as people were buying his work and hoping it would appreciate. But realy, how many of us actually know anything about art? I realy doubt anyone made money.
I've seen one of his painting on sale for seven hundred euro. Now I'm a low brow uneducated person but it's splashes of paint that looks like a five year old did it. Seven hundred euro? Realy?

It was a golden age for radio stations
And the property supplement in the Irish Times was almost bigger then the actual paper

Yes. Those were the days my friend ... we thought they'd never end ..(apologies to the artist)

Such wisdom comes with age, Marion. :)

I wish that I could say I never voted for them. :(

I will never do so again. I recently told a senior party member, whom I know very well, that I could never again vote FF and he looked at me in disbelief.

They're still in a state of denial, as you can see and hear from their spokespersons on radio and tv shows. I think I've gone a little off topic, have I . . . ?

NO. I'ts never too late to see the light.

Nobody knows the real answer .

We are all guessing reasons for the number of posts. FF is definitely not the answer. :)

Was there anything significant on that day?

Like stamp duty or something?
Didn't Michael McDowell say something that caused months of uncertainty.

But that's a long time ago now and I don't even remember what year it happened

Brendan would probably know, he might check into this thread

I blame the Croke Park Agreement :D

Now that Public Sector terms & conditions , pay & pensions are protected from further cuts until 2014 ( hopefully ! ) the amount of threads covering these issues have dropped off dramatically & those that do start fizzle out fairly quickly.

I predict that the level of discussion will increase hugely post 2014 !

Lads

It's very simple

It was the first edition of Rip Off Ireland presented by Eddie Hobbs and he said to the camera, very slowly and very deliberately, something along the following lines

"There is a great website where you can get answers to all your financial questions. It's called askaboutmoney.com and it is totally free. Check it out"

The peak would have been higher but it crashed due to the traffic.
