Ok…I have only had an I phone for a couple of weeks but I am addicted. My partner has an android phone so these apps sync between I phone and android phones. (We both have basic data packages too).

Calengoo….the basic I phone/android calendar app (free) is capable of doing some of these features, but if you want a fully customizable calendar then Calengoo comes highly recommended. There are 4 of us in our family 2 adults and 2 kids and both myself and my partner are able to set up events using a separate calendar colour for each person. This syncs within seconds to each others phones, so we can both see all the familys event in different colours on one calendar. Reminders can be set up, birthdays, recurring events….etc…

Our Groceries….(free) A basic shopping list which syncs between I phone and android. As soon as either of you adds something to the list the other sees it. The app remembers items on the list so when you next add something, like Potatoes, as soon as you write the P…it suggests items you have previously added like potatoes, parsnips etc….which greatly saves time writing them in. While I am in the supermarket my partner can just add a few things from home and it automatically updates my phone. You can add multiple shopping lists too.

Jelly SMS….(free) Use your online free text messages, e.g. O2 give you 250 free text messages a month. It uses your contact list so it is as quick as using your phones normal text messaging app. Providing you don’t go over your free text message limit its free to send them.

Thats just to get the ball rolling……
I would love to hear other peoples “cant live without apps”……

Your description of your use of Calengoo intrigued me, so I went to the Android Marketplace to get a copy. It's not free (so I didn't bother). We'll stick to writing all on the calendar on the kitchen ;).

Google Calendar does something similar and is free. On the iPhone (and any other device/machine) you just set your calendar to be your Google profile.

The I phone or I pad or even android phones basic calendar will let you do almost everything that I mentioned in my post for free. I just like Calengoo for the ability to customise it

Can't believe no-one's mentioned Angry Birds yet !

Kindle App.
imo - Messenger client
WhatsApp - Free messaging (uses data)
Viber - Free Calls (uses data)
SkyScanner - Flight search
The Journal
Irish Times
Cnet
XE
Red Laser - barcode scanner (if anyone has a better one, let me know)
FreeAppADay - guess.

A mixture of paid and free apps below, but these are my daily useage ones:

Twitter (actually don't mind the official app for my needs)
ComicXology - yeah, yeah I'm fully bought into digital comics now.
Audible App - nice and easy for getting audibooks onto iphone
Sticher Radio - For podcasts (that are supported). I mainly use subscribe on iTunes, but this is handy for to stream occasionally when I can't get wifi or sync with itunes and I want to listen to podcast there and then
4OD - catch up on channel four programming, use it mainly for documentaries. Unlike BBC iPlayer it is free, no subscription and no restrictions. Great for a quiet lunch at work sometimes.
Tune-in Radio - streaming internet radio
pUniverse - for any astronomy geeks, "live" night sky so you can identify anything, identifies events such as meteors, etc. Only problem has been it is vulnerable to interference in urban areas (seems to be sky satalite dishes that're the culprit)
Empire Movie Guide - Every Empire magazine movie review, updated reguarly. I've always felt Empire to be one of the more trustworthy so this is handy.
AllMusic - All Music Guide is one of my must check websites, their app is even handier.
Instapaper - Now iPhone has Read Later, but I still prefer Instapaper because it also saves articles etc to the web, so you can check at a computer as well as on your phone.
Guitar Tabs - nice and easy search for songs and corresponding tabs/chords. Decent scroll feature as well so you actually play the song.
Shazam - For when you get that "what is that song?" bugging you.
Dropbox - cloud storage for files
Pages - Apple Word programme, probably the best such programme on a mobile device.
Omnifocus - expensive and need the corresponding Mac App to be really useful, but I cannot live without this project management app.
Keynote - for presentations
Dublin Bus - works for me, and let's me know if I can go for that pee or get a coffee before the bus gets there.
