hi apologies if this is the wrong forum,
but would a solicitor be the right person to write up a formal lease agreement of what would, in time, become a standard rental/lease agreement
and approx cost of getting this written up

Ring a solicitor and ask them for their best quotation.

I fail to see how it "would, in time, become a standard rental/lease agreement".
This implies that you need the services of a solicitor as opposed to buying a standard lease.
The phrasing suggests there is something unusual about the lease or the circumstances of the lease at the moment.

Are you about to be the lessee (user) or the lessor (owner)?

If its not property Im assuming its a piece of equipment or a vehicle such as a car, bus, boat or aircraft?

It appears that this might be work for a specialist solicitor or related professional in a specific industry.
 
Many solicitors would have a checklist of points for discussion and decison before proceeding to a draft. I have found this a better approach than just adopting some draft.

With the advent of the word processor drafts of alll sorts of agreements have got longer and more prolix - a glaring example is the set of rent review clauses in a standard commercial lease, with attached schedules, exceptions, reservations etc ad nauseum.

Hence the "elephant and kangaroo" clause. The urban legend is that a clause in a commercial lease against these animals grazing in the carpark went thru some eminent firms without being spotted.
