Would Private Healthcare Help

I have a friend in early 70's who has a medical card but no private healthcare & is now waiting a few years just to be seen by a consultant for a hip replacement, would purchasing private healthcare be of any benefit at this stage with waiting periods etc. I don't think his current GP is of much use, but as he is moving away from his current location to be nearer to family & friends he will also be moving to a new GP whom I know is good to keep following up on appointments etc.

He attends a consultant privately for his heart as he had a heart attach & stints fitted a few years ago & his hearing is not too great of late.

What policy, if any would you recommend, (funds would not be great)

Thank you.

At this stage, buying private healthcare is unlikely to be of much benefit. At your friend's age, health insurers are allowed to impose a 2 year waiting period before any coverage takes effect and a 10 year waiting period before coverage for pre-existing conditions.
