witness to an assault roughly 5/6 months ago: Summons due on monday/case Friday

I was witness to an assault roughly 5/6 months ago, gave the guards my statement and yesterday afternoon(sat) I get a phone call from a guard informing me that a summons would be forthcoming on monday..sometime! can they land on your door monday and expect you to attend on friday? I did tell them that I was under pressure at work as we are short staffed, not interested!! also what is the possible outcome if I don't attend? apart from a couple of very annoyed guards!!

If you are summoned to court you must attend. Otherwise you could be fined. They will usually give you a bit more notice than that though. If you are being summoned it may be an indication that there is very little other evidence and the case may depend on your eye witness account. You attending could be the defference between a conviction or none.

Not just fined but a bench warrant could be issued for your arrest too.
