Withdrawal An Post Saving cert

An elderly relative recently withdrew a savings cert that had matured about 7 years ago. Originally they thought there was much less left in it (circa 15k) as they had been drawing parts from it over the years however the most recent statement had showed an amount for principal and interest totalling 35k so they were expecting that amount. There was the usual notice saying that from the maturity date no interest was being applied. They applied to withdraw the full amount but when the postal order arrived it was for a higher amount (circa 43k). The reference was also different to the reference they had on the account. Is is possible An Post made an error and issued a wrong cheque? Their names and addresses etc are correct. Any advice what they should do?

Copy cheque/statement and write a letter (keep a copy) raising your concerns and ask An Post to confirm amount and account details .
Hopefully the k 43 is correct,
If not correct, the k43 will be dragged up eventually.
You don,t need that hassle !!
