5-10 years is medium to long term in my view. Your thread title says short term. Which is it? And you might want to post a few more details about your overall financial circumstances for people to comment meaningfully. For example if you have any debts you might be better of reducing/clearing these.
You can see the best deposit interest rates on offer in the Financial Best Buys forum but you should probably not be putting large amounts on deposit for the medium/long term as the real returns after DIRT and inflation will probably be slim to none to negative and lower that what you could possibly earn elsewhere (e.g. non capital guaranteed and/or higher risk/reward investments) over the medium/long term.
