When does a debt expire

Hi

My mother owns a shop, 13 years ago she purchased goods from a supplier, the supplier has now returned to say that they have recently found the cheques and as they have expired want the cheques reissued. What is the standing here, does she have to pay or does the debt die after a certain amount of time if it is not collected?

Regards
Liam

I have no idea but I'd say tough luck on the supplier. Suppose 13 years ago the cheque got lost in the suppliers possession and your mother sent them a new cheque which was cashed. Now the original cheque turns up in a spring clean - how would anybody remember?

I tink you have 6 years in which to issue proceedings for a debt, looks like the supplier has lucked out, dont pay it
