VHI BIK -tax relief

My employer pays VHI on behalf of myself and my partner, totalling €1800. At present I am paying BIK on this amount. Am I entitled to the tax relief on the total amount or just the €900 for my portion. I rang the tax office but they couldn't tell me!

If the policy is in your name and if your employer pays for both you and your partner as a benefit, then you can get 20% tax relief on the total amount.

Make sure that it's the GROSS premium you get tax relief for. Your gross premium should be listed on your VHI membership documents. If it isn't, or if you can't find it, ring VHI they should be able to give it to you over the phone.
