I'm thinking of buying an ETF based on either the S&P or MSCI indices for the USA, to take a contrarian stance on the US dollar Unfortunately I was advised by a friend that ETF dividends are taxed at a very high rate in the USA.
Given that dividends statistically represent 33% of the total long term return on equity investments, this doesn't seem like a good bet.
Has anyone any experience of how these dividends are taxed?
