summonsed for court apperance

hi i have been summonsed for a motor offence for a motorcycle i no longer own.i had sold it when the offence took place.do i have a leg to stand on in court
 
What is the offence? I would assume no road tax or speeding.

Did you complete the nessasary paperwork when you sold the bike, change of ownership etc and sent it away?
 
if you processed the correct documents prior to the offence then it should be the new owner in court not yourself, if you didnt process the sale correctly did you process it at all, if not why not do you have any proof of sale of vehicle?
