Hi,
I am aged 54 working in the public sector for the last few years. I have a defined benefit pension due to start paying at 63 from a previous employer. I would like to stop working at 60 - if I pay into a PRSA can I access these funds at 60 independent of the public sector pension or would the PRSA be considered linked to my public sector pension and available to access (potentially) only at normal retirement age.

Thanks in advance

If your only source of income now is the public sector job, then any AVC must be either an AVC or an AVC PRSA which must be retired at the same time as your public service pension. If you can take early retirement from the public service job at 60, you can use your AVCs or AVC PRSA to supplement your lump sum and/or pension at 60.

If you retire at age 60 consider using some of your AVCs to start an ARF. This will be a source of S class prsi and can allow you to qualify for the 65s benefit.
