Sending savings to Germany

Hi,

I have about 90K total in savings.

I'd like to move it out of Ireland as I am worried about Ireland's financial stability long- term. I'd like to move it into a German bank, I reckon they are a better bet in the long run.

How would I go about this? Are there large transfer costs involved?

And would I have to pay tax on it over there? I've already paid DIRT on it all here.

Any advice welcome.Thanks

You would need to find a German bank that allows offshore accounts.

Would you consider a UK bank with an Irish branch such as Halifax? 50,000 GBP would be guaranteed with the UK Govt.

No offence intended but the UK scene isn't much prettier than the Irish and you might well be looking at a STG denominated a/c which would expose you to loss or possibly gain but would be a variable in your equation. I would recommend BNP Paribas. They have a direct number for their international/off shore a/cs. You will find it on the website. Helps if you speak French. Use Google language tools if you don't.
