My wife has recently given up work to concentrate on a completely separate project (which may eventually become a business). She has been self-employed for approximately 10 years and prior to that would have worked in the PAYE sector.
Should she register with Social Welfare?

Thanks

I dont think she would be entitled to any payments, but perhaps she does need to register to protect her "stamps" for pension entitlements etc down the road.

Hi, Yes that's more what I was interested in. I will try and find some more information from the Department of Social Protection.

If she has been self employed and paying s class contributions then she cannot receive credited contributions...however as she still appear to be self employed...eg. a different project she can continue to pay s class contributions....her accountant should be able to advise her.
